Sorry for the quality of the class notes, the pen did not convert to Google Docs well. During the classes, students will be given the blank notes at the start of class. As a class we will work through the notes together, with the green writing being the targeted information I want to convey with students.
Lesson 2 - Prime Factorization
Lesson 11 - Encryption in Math
Evan, your unit plan has much that is excellent about it: great justification, interesting assessment plan (although I would NOT plan to give a mark of 'emerging' to students who are not showing the slightest interest or effort -- that is not what that mark is meant to indicate!), great project, and very cool prime factorization art. I like the way that you have made connections with important themes in the preamble to each lesson too.
ReplyDeleteHowever, there is one important facet of the lesson plans that is missing or at least not well enough elaborated, and that is the actual activities, examples and expectations of the students during the lessons themselves! Now I have watched you microteaching, and I have confidence that your ability to adapt and improvise will take you pretty far in making a good lesson happen. But as a new teacher and a teacher candidate, you have a responsibility to communicate with others (your SA, FA , TTOCs and me) to let us know what you're planning to do with the class.
For that reason, I need you to revise your three lesson plans to include examples, questions and a more detailed sense of what you are going to ask the students to do in class. This is important -- you need to complete this before I can submit your mark in having passed the course! I'll need this in the next few days, along with an email that lets me know you've completed this.
Again, great unit plan in so many aspects -- but please be specific in your details about how you plan to teach the actual lessons!
Thanks for adding the class notes for all three lessons. They're good, and give a much better sense of what you will be working on with your students. I expect that you will probably need to develop further questions and problems, but I can see that you're on a good track. Well done.
